I have had a variety of teachers in the past, some good and fun ones and some boring and unhelpful ones. I was always the kind of student that liked when the teacher interacted with the students. A few qualities of a good teacher would be to have a positive attitude and to love the subject they teach. Another trait would be having patience with each and every student. Also a teacher that gives up some of their time to help a student is important. I feel comfortable going to most of my teachers for extra help so that I can fully understand the material. There is one teacher that I go to before quizzes and tests to make sure I know the material, so I can do well on the quiz or test. This teacher always helps me and takes the time to review the lessons. I can really talk to her and she will understand.
A few bad qualities of a teacher are only having test and quiz grades in the grade book and no homework grades. Homework grades are a way to make sure the students are getting their work done and are understanding what they are being taught. Another poor quality is moving on to a new section or lesson even when the students do not fully understand as a whole and will just continue to fall behind. If I was a teacher I would rather take the extra day to help the students understand than move on and have them all struggling and having poor grades. Another poor trait is lack of patience and a negative attitude. Nobody wants to communicate and listen to a crabby teacher.
Casey you prove many good points. Teachers need to enjoy the subject they teach and put time and effort into that subject. A good teacher needs to have a positive attitude both towards the material they are teaching but also the student they are teaching. I think I know exactly who your talking about when you talk about a teacher who you can always go to, and she is an excellent teacher. I wish we had more teachers like her. The best teachers are those that will go to ever limit and help the students to excel. Teachers need to be willing to help us help ourself.
A bad teacher is in fact a teacher who barely give tests, quizzes, and doesn't give homework grades. Even checking the homework to make sure we did it would be more helpful than what some of the teachers are doing. When teachers check homework, it reassures that we understand the material and that we are able to pass the class and are ready to take an exam and eventually more onto college.
"Nobody wants to communicate and listen to a crabby teacher." is absolutely perfect. As students we do need a teacher that will communicate with us, and not just try and pass us along.

I completely agree with your analysis of past teachers. You make a necessity to be patient with the students which I feel is very important so that the communication system between student and teacher is a solid one. Many students have different learning abilities, and a good teacher is one that is able to adapt to certain situations. For those teachers that spend time with their students after school and help them with the work outside the classroom, it is indeed a great quality to possess. They find the time to dedicate after school hours to students who do not feel comfortable with the information. Other teachers on the other hand think that what they know is being automatically translated into the student’s mind which is a rather big fault or flaw. Teachers need to realize that their students are at different levels when it comes to different subjects. I feel that teachers may overlook the student in their class when compared to another. For example, some students are great in history and poor in math. The teacher may know that the student is good in history, so he or she must be good in math as well. With that being said, that is a problem that I feel is prevalent throughout our system. For the great teachers who are interactive and enjoyable, I feel that the student is able to function properly socially and intellectually. A good environment within a classroom can only ensure the student of success. Great teachers are known to have special qualities about them, and we are able to recognize as students what is helpful, and what is not. Very good personal overview of your past experiences, and I liked your enthusiasm that was presented within the text. I also enjoyed your comparisons and how you think a teacher should act in order to allow the student to understand and become active within the classroom.
